Questions about Litholrubine BK

What is Litholrubine BK (E180)?

It is Litholrubine BK, a red synthetic colour.

Is E180 harmful?

In 2010 EFSA concluded that the available data were too limited to keep supporting the ADI of 0–1.5 mg/kg body weight per day set earlier by the SCF, or to set a new one, so the old ADI should be withdrawn. EFSA considered that, for the single authorised use in edible cheese rinds, the highest anticipated exposure is 1,700-fold lower than the effect level in female rats, so a significant safety concern is unlikely.

Is Litholrubine BK permitted in Vietnam?

Litholrubine BK (INS 180) is not listed in Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT, the list of additives permitted in food, nor in Appendix 2B.
