Questions about nicotinic acid

Is niacin harmful?

In the United States, niacin is in Part 184 of Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the direct food substances that FDA affirmed as generally recognized as safe (GRAS). The rule allows it as a nutrient supplement at levels not exceeding good manufacturing practice. This is a US rule, not an EFSA evaluation.

Is Niacin (INS 375) permitted in Vietnam?

Nicotinic acid (INS 375) is not listed in Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT, the list of additives permitted in food, nor in Appendix 2B.

Can children and pregnant women have E375?

The US FDA rule on niacin states that niacin may also be used in infant formula in accordance with section 412(g) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act or with regulations promulgated under section 412(a)(2). The rule has no separate provision for pregnant women. If you have a particular health condition, ask a doctor.
