Questions about Green S

What is E142 (green S)?

It is Green S, a synthetic triarylmethane green colour. It is added to food to give a green colour.

Is Green S harmful?

In 2010 EFSA concluded that the data gave no reason to revise the ADI of 5 mg/kg body weight per day set by the SCF in 1984. For adults, estimated intake did not exceed this ADI.

Is E142 permitted in Vietnam?

It was not found. Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT (consolidated text 09/VBHN-BYT), the list of additives permitted in food, has no row with INS 142, and neither does Appendix 2B.
