What is E470a (sodium, potassium and calcium salts of fatty acids)?
E470a stands for sodium, potassium and calcium salts of fatty acids. Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT lists these functions: anticaking agent, emulsifier, stabilizer.

Did you know? According to industry information cited by EFSA, the fatty acids used to make E 470a and E 470b come from four origins: three from vegetable oils that differ in their palmitate/stearate ratio and one from animal fat rich in stearic acid.
Wheat flour, vegetable oil, salt, sugar, anticaking agent (470a), dried onion and garlic, pepper, natural colour (160a).

In 2018 EFSA concluded that there is no need for a numerical ADI and that the salts of fatty acids (E 470a, E 470b) are of no safety concern at the reported uses and use levels. EFSA noted that the fatty acid moieties of the two additives contribute at most 5% of the overall intake of saturated fatty acids from all dietary sources.
Yes. Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT, the list of additives permitted in food, has the entries INS 470(i) and 470(ii).
