Is sucralose harmful?
In 2026 EFSA concluded that there is no need to change the current ADI of sucralose (E 955), 15 mg/kg body weight per day. EFSA concluded that there is no safety concern at the reported uses and use levels for sucralose as a food additive.
Is E955 permitted in Vietnam?
Yes. Sucralose (INS 955) is listed in Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT, the list of additives permitted in food.
Can children and pregnant women have E955?
In 2016 EFSA assessed the proposed use of sucralose (E 955) in foods for special medical purposes for young children aged 1 to 3 years, at 400 mg sucralose/kg of product. EFSA found that exposure in the scenarios considered stayed below the ADI (15 mg/kg body weight) and that the proposed use would not be of safety concern. This conclusion applies only to that type of medical food; the source says nothing specific about pregnant women. If you have a particular health condition, ask a doctor.
