Each time the content of the reference is corrected, we record it here: the date, what changed and which pages it touched.

Risk levels re-rated under the new conditions on the Yenzo Scale page. Vietnam is the first tier: an additive not permitted in Vietnam (Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT) that the scientific evaluations put at the moderate or high level is at the high level; one missing from the list that they put at the very low or low level keeps that level. Science is the second tier (JECFA/Codex, EFSA, FDA), only where the Vietnamese text is silent: E102 high → moderate; E104 high → moderate; E110 high → moderate; E122 high → moderate; E123 high → moderate; E124 high → moderate; E127 high → moderate; E129 high → moderate; E143 high → low; E150c moderate → low; E150d moderate → low; E151 high → low; E155 high → low; E160f low → moderate; E161g moderate → low; E171 high → moderate; E173 moderate → high; E180 moderate → high; E203 low → moderate; E226 moderate → high; E227 moderate → high; E228 moderate → high; E231 high → moderate; E232 high → moderate; E284 moderate → high; E285 moderate → high; E311 moderate → high; E312 moderate → high; E319 moderate → low; E321 moderate → low; E338 moderate → low; E339 moderate → low; E340 moderate → low; E341 moderate → low; E343 moderate → low; E386 moderate → low; E407 low → moderate; E407a low → moderate; E450 moderate → low; E451 moderate → low; E452 moderate → low; E461 low → very low; E462 low → very low; E463 low → very low; E464 low → very low; E465 low → very low; E466 low → very low; E468 low → very low; E469 low → very low; E471 low → very low; E520 moderate → high; E521 moderate → high; E522 moderate → high; E555 moderate → high; E556 moderate → high; E559 moderate → high; E1452 low → high. Each additive page now shows its status in Vietnam (permitted, not permitted in Vietnam, not on Vietnam's list of permitted additives, outside Circular 24/2019); where the level is high only because of that status, the page also gives the level by the scientific evaluations; where a level rests on a contested point, a sentence names it with its source.

Three additive pages added from Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT: E539 (sodium thiosulfate), E639 (DL-alanine), E1402 (alkaline treated starch). The Yenzo Scale rates each like its nearest relative: E539 like the sulphites, E639 like E640, E1402 like E1401.

Pages affected (3)

Three additive category names on the Vietnamese pages now follow Appendix 1 of Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT word for word: “chất làm ẩm”, “chất khí bao gói” and “chất khí đẩy” (formerly “chất giữ ẩm”, “khí bao gói”, “khí đẩy”). Page addresses are unchanged.

Pages affected (3)

Additive category pages: the sentence on Vietnam's list no longer says the risk levels follow EFSA; it now says they are on the Yenzo Scale and links the page on how levels are set.

Pages affected (27)

Pages of additives with an ADI “not specified” (JECFA): the term is now explained as “no numerical ADI is needed”, following JECFA's definition, with its source; Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT calls this an ADI “không xác định”.

Pages affected (65)

Additive category pages: the text for the high risk level names the cases at this level as on the Yenzo Scale page (the EU list of permitted additives, colours not permitted in the US, nitrites and nitrates, the six Southampton colours).

Pages affected (4)

Additive category pages: the text for the high risk level is rewritten on the Yenzo Scale, without “restricted or banned in some countries”; the colours page adds the warning EU labels must carry (Annex V, Regulation (EC) 1333/2008), with its source.

Pages affected (4)

19 “Additives in …” pages rewritten: the title and first sentence now say the list is the additives permitted under Circular 24/2019/TT-BYT, Appendix 2A; an “On real labels” section with actual product labels now sits above the list; the risk levels are marked as the Yenzo Scale's.

The Yenzo ScaleHow we rate the risk level of additives
